The Mondira is the high dome semi circular shaped cymbal with a diameter of about 5 cms. [Soft Break]The player holds the mondira by winding the cord around his fingers. Each cymbal has its own cord attached to it. A small rim around the base of the mondira gives the player the ability to vary the sounds. For playing, touch the cymbals directly and then clash the rims of the cymbals against each other- at different angles and with different force. While some striking techniques allow the cymbals to ring freely , others produce a dampened sound. When the rim of one cymbal is covered by the rim of the other one, both cymbals will immediately stop ringing.
As the mondiras are handmade, each is unique.
Story of fair trade producer group accompanies each pair of mondiras.
